The Recipe

Grilled Spam Musubi Bowls

  • 1 can of spam

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • sushi rice

  • avocado

  • cucumber

  • furikake

  • whatever else your heart desires

Start cooking your rice.

In a bowl, combine the sugar, oyster sauce, and soy sauce.

Slice your spam into 1/4” slices, place in a ziplock bag or baking dish and pour your sauce over the spam. Marinate for about 15 minutes.

While the spam marinates, cut up your extras. I like avocadoe, cucumber, kimchi, jalapeno, cilantro, etc.

Get your grill (or grill pan, or really whatever pan, but it looks better with grill lines) nice and hot, and cook spam for a few minutes each side.

Place rice in a bowl, top with your toppings and spam. Sprinkle furikake over everything to make it look pretty.

The Bullshit

I’ve been making the california roll bowls for a bit now, and my family loved them. Then my kids stopped liking them so i switched to spam. Now they like them again.

I also decided to grill it because i think it would look more appealing with grill lines. It totally does.

Maybe in a few months i’ll have a new bowl.. mac and cheese or something? I dunno, kids are fickle.
